Criteria that determined accessibility in a site:
Parking:
- An off-street parking area must be available adjacent to the building.
- The parking area must be smooth and hard.
- There must be a passenger loading zone with a curb cut or ramp if not at ground level.
Entrance:
- The entrance must be ground level. If the entrance is not ground level there must be a sturdy handrail present.
- Entrance must also include a curb cut or ramp if not at ground level.
- The width of the entrance doorway must be at least than 32”, preferably automatic.
Interior:
- The width of the corridors and aisles must be at least 32”.
- All upper levels that are not served by elevators must have a sturdy handrail.
- In restaurants the table should be at least 28” from the floor.
- There should also be space at the end of a booth to place a wheelchair.
- In theaters and churches a person should be able to remain in the aisle.
Bathroom
- The width of the bathroom and stall doors must be at least 32”.
- There must be ample free space in the bathroom to maneuver a wheelchair.
- Handrails and grab bars must be present in the toilet stall.
- The sink and towels/hand dryers should be accessible from a wheelchair.
Telephone:
- If a public telephone is present, the handset should be 48” or less from the floor.
- The telephone should also have amplifying controls.
Hotels:
- In motels and guest rooms the width of the entrance door and bathroom door should be at least 32”.
- Handrails and grab bars should be present both near the toilet and in the shower.
